You might think it’s too soon to think about vacations for 2020, but planning ahead has its perks. Scheduling timely breaks from work spread across your calendar can give you a trail of refreshing boosts throughout the year.

Perks of planning your trips for next year in advance:

  • Flights and accommodations are likely cheaper.
  • Attractions and restaurants are commonly more available too.
  • You’ll have more time to manage your budget or save enough to visit the places you want.
  • Invite your travel buddies in advance before they plan something else.

10 Long Weekends to Maximise Your 2020 Holidays

Adapted from Seedly

By strategically utilising 11 annual leave entitlements, you can get 40 days of vacation. So what are you going to do with more than a month’s worth of holidays? We’ve picked up a few tips on how you can wisely spend your precious days away from work and live the dream.

When is the best time to take a luxurious long 2-week holiday?

April 25 – May 10, 2020

You’ll be able to utilise these two holidays to be away from work for 3 consecutive weekends or up to 16 days straight. This could be the ideal opportunity for you to travel far or have a long holiday with your family.

What type of vacation can you consider for long-weekends?

Wellness and relaxation

Beach holidays, spa weekends, a family retreat, you name it. We sometimes need a break from our daily routine and obligations. Even if you don’t need it soon, it can be healthy to book a date in advance in your calendar, especially if you’re planning a family trip with your kids and need to schedule it during their school break.

Sports and adventure

Overcoming mountains can feel very rewarding. There are mountains in neighbouring countries that you can hike overnight, like Mt. Rinjani or Mt. Kinabalu. Having a few more days to recover can be ideal when planning for physically demanding adventures. If you’re considering something less challenging, try planning a road trip. Driving yourself somewhere far, far away is exciting enough and qualifies as an adventure too.

Skill building and learning

Sometimes you need a few days to learn a skill and fully immerse yourself in it. Like learning to surf in Bali or taking culinary lessons in Thailand, it can be ideal to mix these with a little bit of vacation so you can have time to relax after or in between your learning sessions too.

Beauty and self-enhancement

You owe it to yourself to look your best, and if you’re planning to have beauty treatments, a long weekend holiday might benefit you. Some people make it a point to have theirs done overseas for various reasons. Consider having a long weekend to book appointments for yourself, such as hair or skin treatments, and even dental procedures if you want to.

A few more tips…

  • If a full year of planning ahead just isn’t for you, try planning 3-6 months instead.
  • Book flights as early as you can for long weekends during public holidays, as airfare tickets can skyrocket during these prime travel periods.
  • If you already have a full year of trips planned, consider getting covered for all your trips with an annual travel insurance plan. FWD Annual Travel insurance costs less when compared to single plans if you travel more than three times a year with worldwide coverage.
  • You can make the most of your FWD Travel insurance by purchasing it during a promotion period, because you can buy it in advance with a discount and activate it anytime or up to 6 months later.
