Personal Data Protection Notice

("the Privacy Notice")

We at FWD Singapore Pte. Ltd. (“FWD”, “us” or “we”) recognise the importance of the Personal Data you have entrusted with us. This Privacy Notice is to keep you informed of how FWD manages the Personal Data in our possession which is subject to Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”).

For the purposes of this Privacy Notice, as a user or visitor of the FWD website and as a data subject, you will hereafter be referred to as “you” or “your”.

Personal information collection statement

  1. By interacting with us, submitting information to us, enquiring about or signing up for any products, campaigns, promotions or events offered by us, you agree and consent to FWD, as well as our respective representatives and/or agents (“Representatives”) if applicable, collecting, using and processing your Personal Data and/or disclosing such Personal Data to our authorised service providers and relevant third parties in the manner set forth in this Privacy Notice.
  2. “Personal Data” is defined under the PDPA to mean any data about an individual who can be identified from that data, or from that data and other information to which an organisation has or is likely to have access to. This may include but is not limited to:
    • identity information such as your name, email address, telephone number, age, occupation, health information, social media accounts, government ID details (where a purchase is completed), card or bank details (for payment methods selected);
    • technical information such as IP address, browser information, operating systems and platform, device information;
  3. You may also be asked to provide personal information about your dependents, beneficiaries, authorised representatives and others. By providing their personal information, you confirm that you have properly obtained their consent.
  4. FWD collects Personal Data in accordance with the PDPA, and will obtain your consent for the collection, use, disclosure and/or processing of your Personal Data, unless an exception under the PDPA permits us to collect, use, disclose and/or process your Personal Data without your consent.  
  5. The purposes for which Personal Data collected may be used and/or processed varies depending on the circumstances for which we may / will be required to process Personal Data, including but not limited to:
    • offering and providing services and products to you, which may include, insurance services and products;
    • processing and assessing applications or requests made by you in connection with FWD’s services or products, issuing or arranging insurance contracts and maintaining your account with FWD;
    • responding to and/or processing and handling your queries, complaints, feedback, suggestions and requests;
    • requesting feedback or participating in surveys, as well as conducting market research and/or analysis for data compilations and statistical analysis or other purposes for us to design insurance services and products;
    • marketing services and products to you (please see further details in paragraphs 7 to 9 below);
    • operating, maintaining and providing subsequent services (whether through us or a third party authorized by us) in relation to insurance services and/or products for which you are a party to, or any applications made by you for insurance services and/or products;
    • creating and maintaining the credit and risk related models of FWD;
    • processing payment instructions;
    • verifying and conducting any eligibility, credit, physical, medical, security, underwriting and/or identity checks in connection with provision of services or products;
    • any purposes in connection with any claims, actions, or proceedings made by or against or involving you;
    • managing the safety and security of our premises and services, including the carrying out of CCTV surveillance and security clearances;
    • complying with foreign and domestic laws and regulations codes of practice or guidelines applicable to FWD or companies within the FWD group;
    • meeting commitments with any legal, regulatory, governmental, tax, law enforcement or other authorities, industry bodies in Singapore or any other jurisdictions where FWD or companies within the FWD group has a presence or business; and
    • complying with policies and procedures applicable within the FWD group.
  6. FWD may disclose your Personal Data to the following parties, whether within or outside Singapore for the purposes described in paragraph 5 above:
    • members of the FWD group;
    • our professional advisors, including our lawyers and auditors;
    • contractors or third-party service providers who provide operational services to FWD, including, courier services, information technology, market research, storage and archival services;
    • persons or companies providing services related to insurance or reinsurance and engaged by FWD;
    • physicians, hospitals, clinics, medical practitioners, laboratories, technicians, loss adjustors, risk intelligence providers, financial adviser representatives, claim investigation companies, administrators or other professional advisors engaged by FWD (“Our Partners”);
    • vendors or other third-party service providers, including distributors, healthcare providers and motor workshops that provide services in relation to FWD’s businesses and insurance services and products offered by FWD;
    • associations of insurance companies, including the Life Insurance Association Singapore, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore, and the General Insurance Association Singapore;
    • where payment is involved, your banks, credit card companies and their related service providers;
    • relevant government bodies or authorities or law enforcement agencies to comply with any laws, rules and regulations or schemes imposed by any governmental authority, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore; and
    • persons or companies to whom FWD or the FWD group has to make a disclosure to under any law, rules, regulations, codes of practice or guidelines (whether applicable in or outside Singapore). This may include your family, relatives or appointed executors in connection with your will(s) or the administration of your estate.
  7. Only if you have given us your consent, or do not object to such marketing activities, in relation to using your Personal Data for marketing services and products to you, we may:
    • use your Personal Data in direct marketing; and/or
    • provide your Personal Data to other authorized persons or service providers for its use in direct marketing.
  8. Subject to paragraph 7, in connection with direct marketing, we may from time to time:
    • use your name, contact details, services and products information, financial background and demographic data held by FWD to market the following classes of services and products offered by FWD, other members of the FWD group and/or such other authorized persons or service providers:
      • insurance services and products;
      • wealth management services and products;
      • financial services and products;
      • reward, loyalty or privileges programmes and related services and products; and
      • donations and contributions for charitable and/or non-profit making purposes;
    • provide your Personal Data described in paragraph 8(a) above to any members of the FWD Group and/or such other authorized persons or service providers for their use in direct marketing of the classes of services and products described above.
  9. If you do NOT wish FWD to use your Personal Data in direct marketing or provide your Personal Data to other persons or companies for their use in direct marketing, you may write to the Data Protection Officer of FWD at the address below to opt out from direct marketing at any time. FWD will no longer approach you for promotions or products that may be suited to your insurance needs and personal profile. However, this will not affect our ability to service your existing FWD policies.

Access and correction of personal data

You have the right to request access to your Personal Data held by FWD and request correction of any of your Personal Data which is incorrect. FWD may charge you a reasonable fee for processing and complying with your data access request.

Accuracy of personal data

FWD will ensure the accuracy of all Personal Data collected and processed. Appropriate procedures are implemented so that all data is regularly checked and updated to ensure that it is reasonably accurate having regard to the purposes for which that data is used.

FWD will at all times endeavour to ensure the accuracy of Personal Data held by FWD, and if such Personal Data is transferred to third parties, it will notify that third party of any correction to be made.

Retention of personal data

No Personal Data is kept for longer than is necessary and FWD will comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements in Singapore.

Use of cookies and third-party links

FWD’s website may include hyperlinks to third party websites. FWD has no control over the content, accuracy, opinion expressed, and other links provided at these third-party websites or how these third-party websites deal with your Personal Data. You should visit these third-party websites for details of their privacy policies in relation to their handling of your Personal Data.
