Personal accident plans aren’t anything new to most of us and as the name rightfully suggests, they offer financial protection in the event of an unforeseen accident.

While this is most commonly associated with accidental death and disability as well as medical expenses that arise due to an accident, the benefits of a personal accident plan can go much further than that!

In fact, here are 5 surprising (and practical) things you probably didn’t know were covered by FWD Personal Accident insurance.

1. COVID-19, Dengue and other infectious diseases

With COVID-19 and Dengue still a real threat in Singapore, you’ll be relieved to know that our Personal Accident insurance offers up to S$7,500 of inpatient and outpatient medical coverage, which covers expenses incurred due to infectious diseases like these.

In fact, we cover a comprehensive list of 23 infectious diseases – in addition to COVID-19.

As far as COVID-19 is concerned, you’ll be able to make a claim related to the outbreak after a reduced waiting period of 15 days from your policy coverage start date – as compared to the usual 90 days for other infectious disease claims.

And if you’re planning to get a COVID-19 vaccination, our Personal Accident insurance gives you the added assurance of knowing that you’ll be covered (at no extra cost!) for medically necessary inpatient expenses incurred in Singapore should you develop any side effects that require hospitalisation after the vaccination.1

2. Food poisoning

Accidentally consumed something bad? Our Personal Accident insurance covers food poisoning too!

With the spate of local food poisoning cases in recent years, it’s hard to say if and when a similar incident could happen to you, especially if you frequently eat out or consume catered food. And let’s just say that even preparing meals from home may not fully excuse you too.

While you can take precautions to reduce your risk, it could still be helpful to protect yourself in advance for the unexpected food poisoning case with a Personal Accident plan like ours.

In such a scenario, you’ll be able to claim up to $7,500 for medical expenses incurred, instead of having to bear the out-of-pocket expenses.

3. Physiotherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Speaking of medical expenses, we understand that an accident can sometimes leave you in need of additional recovery or rehabilitative support which could add to your overall costs.

After all, accidental injuries could happen regardless of whether you’re an active sportsperson or an occasional exerciser.

In some cases, you may require the expertise of a Chinese Medicine Practitioner or Chiropractor. If so, we’ll cover up to S$1,500 for Chinese physician, acupuncturist, bonesetter and chiropractor expenses.

And in the event that an accident causes you to be permanently disabled, our Personal Accident plan allows you to claim up to S$5,000 in physiotherapy expenses so that you can focus on your recovery.

4. Reservist training

If you’re an NSman or know someone who is, this next section is for you.

While most of us living in Singapore would be familiar with what reservist is, did you know that NSman can still be covered for accidental injuries incurred during their reservist training?

That’s right – our Personal Accident plan not only provides S$15,000 coverage for medical expenses due to an accident, but also extends this coverage to include NSman undergoing reservist training too.

So holler at your partner, family member or friend, because this could come in especially useful before their next reservist training is due.

5. Damage to personal electronic devices

Last but definitely not least, our Personal Accident plan allows you to cover your personal electronic devices in the event that they get damaged, lost or stolen in an accident that results in hospital confinement.

If you’ve ever totaled your new device in an accident, you’d be familiar with that heartbreaking feeling that comes with it.

Maybe we’ve exaggerated a little, but it’s hard to deny that our personal electronic devices hold a special place in our hearts.

That’s why we give you the option to cover your phone, tablet and laptop for up to S$3,000 in the event of an accident, which may come in especially helpful if you’re often out and about – think cycling to work or school, playing sports, or engaging in outdoor activities.

At a yearly premium which starts from S$120 for $100,000 coverage2FWD Personal Accident insurance provides an affordable and versatile cover for accidental death and disability, medical expenses, and other benefits – including most of the above.

And if you need a little something extra to fit your lifestyle, we allow you to enhance your plan based on what you need.

So, take a few minutes (yes that’s all it takes) and get yourself covered online here – you’ll thank us later 😉
