We could tell you about the Halong Bay or the architecturally rich capital city, Hanoi. But we choose to talk about the tradition of lighting lanterns and letting them afloat on every Tet (Vietnamese New Year, usually between January to February) and every Full Moon. Owing to its French colonial history, Vietnam is a cultural mix that never ceases to amaze. You’ll get the best value for their world-famous cuisine Pho, and also the iconic Vietnamese coffee. As you indulge your palette, learn about their history in Ho Chi Minh Museum or just lie down and watch all the floating lanterns drifting into the infinite sky.

This is one of the first exotic beach destinations on this list. There are a number of attractions here too. There’s a Buddha shrine with a 12-metre high golden Buddha statue. Then there’s Koh Tao, the Turtle Island, which is also the scuba diving destination of Thailand. The Wat Plai Laem is a vibrant temple with an 18-arm image of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. The beautiful Nu Muang waterfall is the most breath-taking waterfall in all of Koh Samui. With beaches so quiet and serene, it’s the perfect place to get some much-needed rest.

If you’re a nature lover who never misses the chance to see the sunset, then you couldn’t possibly miss the Tanah Lot in Bali – a temple atop a huge rock in the middle of the sea. The Uluwatu temple on the edge of a cliff in the Bukit Peninsula and the Besakih Temple in East Bali are other picturesque places that you won’t want to miss during your stay. If you’re fond of nature and adventure, the active volcano Mount Batur and the Goa Gajah – Elephant Caves should be on your checklist.
Seminyak, on the other hand, offers a hip scene of shops, dining and fancy cafes. It’s a social media haven if you like sharing pictures of your breakfast bowls and coconut milk latte.

This is one of the best weekend getaways that you can set out for if you are looking for a variety of activities to occupy yourself with. Scuba diving, parasailing, snorkelling, standup paddling, fly fish, cliff diving, and mermaid swimming, are activities you might want to do in Boracay. Remember to set your foot in the powdery white sand beach, you won’t be disappointed. Food comes in a variety of flavours and cuisines, which makes island-living a true delight.
There is something everywhere to keep your kids occupied too, after all, it’s a perfect family friendly beach getaway. After tucking the kids in bed, you’ll want to spend a romantic barefoot stroll along the beach and grab a glass of wine or have a beer in the beachfront bars as you listen to a serenade of waves in the moonlight.
